Day 24: opening

Have to admit that when I saw this prompt, the above image was not at all the first thing I thought of.

But this of course is the beauty of OctPoWriMo, and poetry in general: the ability for inspiration to take any form, and to take us anywhere. Presumably, too, we're all here thanks to being open to this new experience.

So accordingly, I'm leaving this one wide open - no suggested form(s) today!

Word prompts (in the spirit of keeping this open, I've taken a noun, verb, adjective, adverb and wildcard from https://wordassociations.net !)

outside
unlocked
fling
freely
gape

Today's last word goes to Oprah:

Happy writing!

-- Bianca

  3. An attempt..by a novice bound by time limits...
Nature is open in every form ... nature’s openess is vast....

    Nature balm
    Fresh breeze in the air
    Gentle touch on the skin
    Melting dew on the rind
    Humbling coolness in the mind
    Warmth of the Sun rays
    Soothing love for the heart
Love of Nature as vast as it’s openess...sr

    1. Poetry is often best when not overthought. This piece is a perfect example.
Sometimes a technically perfect piece, whether art or poetry, is boring and lacking in vitality. This piece is vibrant and alive.

    2. I really agree with Cara's comments here and enjoyed the 'humbling coolness in the mind' line in particular!

    1. Brilliant post - and so good that you are also using it to raise awareness. There is no normal and most of us experience mental illness at some stage in our life. Thank you, creative lady, for making this transparent and real!

  8. Grateful for this prompt. I wondered, if I could write about anything, what would I write about? I wrote about people who inspire me, by being open (and other things), : https://unassortedstories.wordpress.com/2018/10/24/real-news/

  15. For the first time in my life, I've been grounded by the doctor, and been given strict orders to stay home for a day to rest, recover, and SLEEP. So I'm about to go do just that, but I wanted to toss the day's poem up first. My brain's not up for much at all right now so this is, sadly, as good as it gets. I'll only be able to read everyone else's lovely work tomorrow-ish, unfortunately!

  24. Oh! This one was fun! I rarely write Free Verse as I like the challenge Forms and syllable counts offer me but today I really enjoyed just letting go and writing this one. Actually it pretty much wrote itself. 😊 “A Grand Opening” https://leonaslines.com/2018/10/24/a-grand-opening/
