Day 27 - What Color Is It?

As a visual artist, my color wheel is one of my most used tools. As a writer, the way I use color, the way I describe it, has the ability to set the mood and to allow the reader to visualize what I am describing.

What color is a frog?

According to Kermit, it’s not easy being green, having to spend each day the color of leaves.

I considered writing this prompt about the viral internet argument about the dress. You know the one I’m talking about, right? Maybe there’s a poem to be written about it.

THE PROMPT:

Select a random noun. When you see an image of this person/place/thing, what color is it? Brainstorm the different ways the color can be described. Write a poem to help us see something in color through your eyes. Use an appropriately sourced and credited image of your chosen noun to illustrate your poem.

WORD PROMPTS:

color
shade
tone
color theory
design

Remember that our prompts are only suggestions - go wherever the muse takes you.
In the meantime, read other participants' poems, share the #OctPoWriMo hashtag on social media, and add a link to your own poem in the comments below.

  5. I've never understood that dress colour illusion. It always looks like an ugly murky brown and dirty blue to me whichever way I look at it or whichever bit I stare at.

    1. I've never even seen it before now. I have cataracts, which are not bad enough to warrant surgery yet, but they have affected my perception of color.

    2. The idea that millions of people got their knickers in a twist over it is rather frightening.

  7. I almost didn't share this one. It is very personal and it opens up a wound that will never heal.

  8. One of my favorite lines about color comes from Judy Collins' song "Albatross."
Even now by the gate with your long hair blowing
And the colors of the day that lie along your arms
You must barter your life to make sure you are living
And the crowds that have come
    You give them the colors
And the bells and the wind and the dream

  12. Being visually oriented, I like this prompt. Color and poetry go hand in hand.

  19. What color is it ......

    After a stressful 24 hour work ....
Count my blessings for best possible outcome
Everyone is right by their agenda

A colorful world turned into black and white
My way , your way or high way
    People showing their true colors
True to their character and culture
When the agenda is well being of the common goal
The whole team comes together to see all the shades
In spite of good outcome, I left in the morning gloomy
While the nature is filled with fall colors
we struggle to see even the shades of grey ....sr
