OctPoWriMo Day 16

I apologize for the lateness of this prompt. I fell last Sunday and injured my left knee. The doc says he thinks I tore my meniscus and I have an appointment to see an orthopedist on Friday. Until then, and probably for four to six weeks, I have to stay off my feet. Which means I can't work walking dogs. It has thrown me into an emotional roller coaster (on top of the one I was already on with my break ups) and a bit of brain fog. If you want to read more about this, you can find it in my public post, And the Universe Laughs on my patreon.

Ah, good ol' Father Time, I know him well. He is constantly there reminding us that our time here is short and if we don't make the best of it we will never accomplish what we want to accomplish with the limited time we have on this, planet earth.

When my exes mother died sixteen years ago, I noticed she had a clock in every room. I immediately decided I didn't want to live my life ruled by the clock and got rid of almost all of the clocks in my home. Of course in this society we have to allow clocks a say in our lives, but I wanted to minimize it as much as possible.

Of course I couldn't help but feel like time is running out when I hit my fifties for all the things I wanted to accomplish in this life. I have discovered that time is very precious and valuable to me and how I spend it. I know I don't want to spend it making money for other people. I want to spend it doing the things I love and have a passion for. It is why I started walking dogs. If I had to do something, outside of my writing and creating, to make a living then I was only going to do something that I cared about, and I love dogs.

Poetry Prompts:

Free write about how you feel about time. Do you have clocks in every room? Do you find your time valuable or do you give it away to everyone else but yourself?

Word Prompts:

running out
giving away
me time

Suggested Poetry Type: Let's go for the Blitz for this poem, it has that, "time is running out" feel.

  1. Day 16

Sorry to hear about your knee.Hope those dogs are sending you get well cards:) Troubles seem to come all together...In threes they say. My first time here and am enjoying it. Sticking with the given prompts although I misinterpreted this one... thought it meant time spent with Dad...oh well my mind tends to spin off on occasion:)

    1. You can interpret them however they inspire you. Glad to have you along for the OctPoWriMo Journey.

  2. Nurture that knee. Thank you for posting today's prompt . . . in spite of all else. I hope looking out the window at the fall will ease your thoughts into another poem. Here's mine for today -- a step to healing.

  3. Oh Morgan, I feel you! I'm going to write my post now, inspired by yours. If I manage to get a poem out of it, it'll be my first one. I've left about it, cried about it, but not poemed about it.

I wish you patience, endurance, and much loving support.

  4. As fast as I could because I don't want to think.

  5. Here is mine for today:

  13. Day 16

  14. Hope your healing is swift!!

  17. Time is strange. I've struggled with time this month. That's why 1/2 my posts are finished at 2 or 3 in the morning. Today I got stuck with a 2 to 10 PM shift. Thinking I wouldn't have time I took time when poor Miss Morgan didn't have time to post the promt. I picked a minute poem. Too bad, I like blitz form.

  18. What a spot of trouble. I hope your leg mends quickly.
I have a very sweary post with a Blitz poem today.
    Harried to the Grave
