OctPoWriMo Day 5

Isn't life just a series of doors that open and close and open again? Sometimes I feel like I've lived a hundred lifetimes where I've slipped into new realities or said goodbye to old ones. I used to play a game when I was young in which I'd send a message to my future self, trying to capture a snapshot in time to connect to worlds yet unknown. It's all about progression - one foot in front of the other.

I've recently changed careers and I must admit the transition was more difficult than I thought it might be. I have come to a place where I finally feel settled. This week, I closed the door to that old part of my life and fully embraced this new one. I allowed the door to open and found I like the view before me.

What does the concept of doorways mean to you? Do you believe when one doorway closes, a new one opens? What images come to mind? How does this make you feel?

  1. I wish the door to Sleep Land would open, let me in, and then close for a good 6 to 8 hours.
Which isn't what today's poem is about, but it's what I'm thinking about!

  6. The first time this year I tried out one of the suggested forms, yay! It helps to try out new stuff, even when I ended up digressing a bit from the form in the end: https://unassortedstories.wordpress.com/2019/10/05/just-be-here/

  7. Don't know if it'd be called a theme, but this is the second time I based the poem on an event. This is similar to, but still somewhat different, than the style I was using. Lengthier, but worth it.

    1. This has such a smooth flow. I know what you mean about finding the groove when writing. I struggled today too and walked away for a bit. It finally clicked, but you're right. Sometimes you have to go the long way around.

  18. I cheated no time or inspiration. One of the reasons I got into poetry is the dystopian poets: the Doors. Like fridge poetry I cobbled together lyrics and quotes to say what I wanted "listen, real poetry doesn't say anything. It just ticks off the possibilities. Opens all doors. You can walk through any one that suits you"
